For newcomers, bands without a big label contract, festivals have for decades been a far-reaching platform. In our digital times, the music industry has changed dramatically: Now even for established artists, concerts have become an important source of income as buying CDs has gone out of fashion. And along the same line, gigs have become a vital PR instrument as big labels‘ promotion campaigns appear quieter in the internet‘s information cacophony.

Vernissage „Lambert Krahe“ at Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf

The SMKP sheds some light on its roots with the “Akademie.Sammlung.Krahe” show (“Academy.Collection.Krahe”): The Düsseldorf artist and founding director of the Academy of Art Lambert Krahe (15 March 1712 – 2 November 1790) laid the foundation for his internationally renowned collection during his extensive stay in the art capital Rome. Lambert Krahe’s collection is one of the few, if not the only collection gathered by an artist aimed at 18th-century artists that has survived in toto.
